Hydroponics: Expanded Clay is commonly used in the world of hydroponics and aquaponics. Hydroponics companies in India have started using Expanded Clay in their projects. The large pore space of expanded clay ensures proper water flow with no clogs or blockages, and it has the capacity to hold plenty of air bubbles, which helps keep the root zones of most plants aerated and oxygenated.

Horticulture Plants: The porous micro-surface texture and interior porous structure of expanded clay resist clogging and provides superior aeration that promotes growth of delicate, fine root systems. A healthy soil profile can be difficult to maintain. Since most soils consist of solid particles, water and air, it is necessary to maintain a careful balance of these elements to establish a healthy root system. Generally, a good soil profile is approximately 25% water, 25% air and 50% solid particulate matter.

In the garden: The porous, cellular nature of Expanded Clay helps manage air, water and solid particulate matter. It reduces compaction, increases the soil porosity and maintains the soil temperature. The gaps between the pellets provide good aeration for root systems. Hydro Clay Pebbles limits excessive water retention and enhances drainage, which is an essential factor for the proper growth of roots and plants. Expanded clay does not release any salinity and does not change the pH factor of the mixture.

Expanded clay is an extremely light weight, strong and thermally insulating material. ECA is a better replacement for coco peat and conventional soil.

Liaflor is a ceramic, purely mineral substrate made out of expanded clay. The basic material is natural, expandable clay which is expanded while it is burnt at 1200°C in a rotary kiln and then screened out. Liaflor is germ-free as well as chemically and biologically neutral. Liaflor drains and can be reused. It is eco-friendly produced and its disposal does not pollute the environment.

Unlike cheap inferior quality clay, Liaflor German expanded clay will not break down over time. Cheap quality expanded clay equates to false economy as it breaks down, becomes muddy and will block up your pumps!
